The Association for Corporate Growth will present the first annual Tom Hopkins Award For Excellence in mergers and acquisitions to John Paglia, director of the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project. The award will be presented at the ACG 101 Holiday Reception Dec. 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village. ACG is an organization of professionals involved in corporate growth, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions. ACG 101 serves corporate executives and professionals in the West Valley-Ventura County-Santa Barbara areas. Members of ACG are CEOs, CFOs and COOs of middle market or growing corporations, as well as members of professional services companies that serve them, such as private equity firms, investment bankers, lenders, attorneys and accountants. ACG has nearly 12,000 members representing 5,000 companies in 53 chapters throughout North America, Europe and in Mexico. ACG 101 is based in Westlake Village. “Dr. Paglia’s ongoing study of the capital markets, and his perceptive analysis of how changes in these markets affect companies of all sizes, make him an eminently worthy first recipient of the Tom Hopkins Award,” Jim Queen, president of Teller Springs Consulting and a member of the ACG 101 Board of Directors said in a statement. The research led by Dr. Paglia, “has made a tremendous contribution to the ability of companies in our area to make key strategic decisions about their near-term and long-range growth plans,” Queen said. The award was established by ACG 101 Corridor Chapter to honor C. Thomas Hopkins, a Partner in the Santa Barbara and Century City offices of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP and co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group. “Tom Hopkins was the driving force behind the founding of the ACG 101 Corridor Chapter eight years ago, and served as the Chapter President for its first five years,” Queen said. “This award is fitting recognition for his dedication and perseverance.” Paglia is associate professor of finance at the Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management, and is Director of the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project. Dr. Paglia’s work on the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project – the first simultaneous, comprehensive, and on-going investigation of all major segments of the private capital market – has been accessed by more than 20,000 business executives and organizations in more than 60 countries. The Graziadio School of Business this year presented him with its “George Award,” given to the faculty member who best draws upon resources of the business community to make a difference in the classroom.
