Pierce President May Take District Job

Pierce College President Kathleen Burke is in discussions to take a position with the Los Angeles Community College District. Burke, who has led the Woodland Hills community college since 2010, has been in talks with the LACCD chancellor’s office about taking a position as the district’s vice chancellor of institutional effectiveness. “She has not signed off and there is not a final contract,” said Steve Springer, a spokesman for the community college district on Wednesday. The vice chancellor of institutional effectiveness is charged with assisting the district’s nine colleges, including the Valley’s Pierce, Los Angeles Valley College and Mission College, get accreditation every six years. For more than a year, the vice chancellor position has been filled by an interim employee, a district trustee told the Daily News. Burke told the Daily News that she has always been interested in accreditation and has held several accreditation-related positions at the district already. She served as vice president of academic affairs at Los Angeles Mission College, East Los Angeles College and Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. The nine colleges in the district are up for accreditation in March 2016.
