Santa Clarita Credit Rating Upgraded

Standard and Poor’s recently upgraded Santa Clarita to a AAA credit rating, the city’s third such upgrade in five years. “One factor rating analysts consider is the strength of the local economy. Santa Clarita’s focus on being business friendly and attracting high-quality businesses was key in helping the city achieve a AAA rating,” said Mayor Frank Ferry in a prepared statement. Santa Clarita is now the third-largest city in Los Angeles County, following its recent annexation of Fair Oaks Ranch, Jakes Way and the Vista Canyon area, which added 2,437 acres and 15,000 residents to the municipality. “We set a conservative fiscal plan 25 years ago when the City was established. This is the result of 25 years of continuity in that approach to budgeting and financial management,” said Ken Pulskamp, the city manager, in a prepared statement. Santa Clarita joined 67 other California municipalities that have been rated AAA, of the 482 cities in the state. Kelly Goff
