Teledyne Receives $60 Million NASA Contract

A subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Inc. received a $60 million contract from NASA to build a section of the space agency’s new Orion launch vehicle for deep space missions, the company announced Tuesday. Teledyne Brown Engineering, in Huntsville, Ala., will design and manufacture the section of the Space Launch System connecting the core rocket stage with the rocket engine, which would propel the Orion crew and service modules to the moon or even Mars. Teledyne Brown, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies in Thousand Oaks, will partner with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, for the assembly of components. Chief Executive Robert Mehrabian noted that Teledyne has worked for 50 years on NASA missions. “The Space Launch System is a centerpiece program for (Marshall) and a strategic capability for our nation,” said Mehrabian, in a prepared statement. Shares closed up 60 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $89.20 on the New York Stock Exchange.
