Upscale Multiplex Theater Planned for Simi Valley Mall

The owners of the Simi Valley Town Center are planning a redevelopment of the Ventura County mall. The center, co-owned by Walton Street Capital LLC of Chicago and Alberta Development Partners LLC of Greenwood Village, Colo., announced plans on Saturday for the construction of a Studio Movie Grill multiplex. It will be the first phase of a larger redevelopment. The 36,789-square-foot theatre will feature 10 screens and in-theater dining. This is the first California location for the upscale Dallas theatre chain, which has locations in Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois, North Carolina and Indiana. Don Provost, founding principal of Alberta Development Partners, said now that the economy has improved, the theatre should help attract better tenants to the mall. “Bringing Studio Movie Grill to the redeveloped west end of the town center will energize the project and provide leasing momentum as we continue to advance our redevelopment plans,” he said in a statement. Jeffrey DiJulius, mall general manager, said most of the tenants at the location where the movie theater will be built have been relocated to other parts of the center. Urban Home and EZ Home Furniture, the two remaining tenants, will be relocated at the end of the holiday season. Construction of the theater should begin in the spring and take a year. The mall, at 1555 Simi Town Center Way, opened in 2005 and is anchored by a Macy’s department store.
