Warner Bros. Foreign Box Office Tops $3 Billion

Warner Bros. exceeded $3 billion in international box office for the second consecutive year in 2014 as the Burbank studio benefited from large tent-pole films that drew foreign audiences. The international box office totals included nine films that exceeded $100 million in receipts with “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” and “Interstellar,” a co-production with Paramount Pictures, leading the way, grossing more than $400 million each. “Godzilla,” a co-production with Burbank production company Legendary Entertainment, took in $327 million overseas. Another six grossed more than $100 million each. The international film division of Warner Bros. Entertainment said that it was the 16th consecutive year that the foreign box office brought in at least $1 billion. The studio has not released domestic box office totals for the year. “In an increasingly competitive marketplace, it is our great team whose commitment, talent and passion make it possible to maximize the international potential of all of our films, from the smallest gems to the biggest tent poles,” said Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of Warner Bros. Pictures International Distribution, in a statement released on Sunday. Also contributing to the foreign totals were local productions “Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes)” from Argentina; comedy “Vaterfreuden” from Germany; and “Rorouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno” and “Runouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” from Japan.
